About
Grief, loss, sorrow, death, and despair are often topics those of us who have been indoctrinated into Western philosophy and society continue to be in denial about. So much so that our tongues become heavy when providing communicative support to others OR communicating our own needs, feelings, sensations, and emotions when navigating grief and loss, including shadowloss (loss IN life.)
The Jewish traditions around mourning, grief, loss, end of life, and the afterlife encourage us to not only be with the dead but also to share as a community our feelings around loss. Jewish practices relating to mourning and death have two purposes: kavad ha-met or respect for the dead and nihum avelum or comforting the living who will miss the deceased. Life is valued above all else, therefore, in our traditions the end of life is just as sacred.
Join us as we navigate grief literacy, learn how to vocalize our own grief, learn how to speak about loss, and hold space not only for the dying but especially for those experiencing the very human and all too real human condition of loss.
