About
For Martin Buber (1878 - 1965), although God was unknowable, God could be met, encountered, faced, confronted. While Buber knew that any description of this confrontation would necessarily lack exactly what it sought to convey, he nevertheless made the effort to distinguish and articulate the difference between relating to the Other as an “It,” and relating to the Other as a “You.” The latter is life changing while the former is our all-too-common daily gruel. We will do our best to track Buber’s evocation of the “I-Thou” event and find echoes and resemblances to it in our own lives.
